Welcome to the Lone Tree Leader
Online!
At the LTL, we know that a well-designed, accessible
website is a necessity in our increasingly technological
world. In order to keep up with changing times, we tend to
change once in a while. The LTL Online now has a new
look and layout and is easier to browse.

We're always happy to hear constructive comments and
criticism. Email us about the new website look, content or
anything else on your mind. If you're in the area, stop and
chat and meet Bonnie and Clyde (the office felines).

About the Lone Tree Leader
The Lone Tree Leader is a weekly newspaper serving
communities in Iroquois and Ford Counties, Illinois. The
LTL is published each Thursday morning and dated the
following Friday. It is mailed to hundreds of subscribers in
East  Central Illinois and also to people in 38 states.

Why the name "Lone Tree Leader?" Well, "Onarga, by the
red men named, Lone Tree, the Indian version." That is one
of the first lines in a poem written by an ancestor of
Durwood Shawl, a genealogical researcher with ties to
Onarga. The poem was written at a 1906 Greene Family
reunion at the home of Mrs. Sylvester Howard in Onarga.

It is only family lore that the word "Onarga" is Amer-Indian
for "Lone Tree," but it sounds plausible (and a bit romantic)
to us and makes a very good name for our newspaper.
Other theories concerning  the origin of the name do not
lend themselves to the naming of this paper.

Of course, the "Leader" part comes from the old Onarga
newspaper, "The Onarga Leader and Review."
